Art Programme
Centrala is the space to explore Central and Eastern Europe’s cutting-edge Art and Culture. We present an innovative programme of socially-engaged contemporary art and artists, alongside a diverse range of eclectic events. We are a space for people to come together, be creative, and engage with the arts, culture, history and politics of Central and Eastern Europe.
Our Programme includes a wide range of Central and Eastern European art, design, heritage, audio and visual culture. An innovative, socially engaged programme, which encourages appreciation of CEE Arts in the UK. It includes exhibitions, film screenings, discussions, workshops, artist residencies, symposiums, conferences and festivals.
We are passionate about creating an environment where innovation, artistic experimentation and new ideas can thrive. We draw inspiration from our outstanding International outlook, networks and connections. At the heart of our work is a dedication to enabling those who are currently underrepresented in England’s cultural sector, to have careers in culture, and reach new audiences with their world-class artistic and creative contributions.
We are always working on increasing accessibility & experimenting, including connecting visual arts with sound & improving access for people who are unable to experience art visually. Our commissions respond to topics relevant to migrant, minority & underrepresented communities. Our audience engagement work is creative & innovative, linking international artists with local communities in Birmingham in topics which have affected them internationally as well as locally.
Since we opened our doors to the public we have collaborated with renowned artists, bringing them to our local communities and showcasing solo shows for the first time in the UK. Including artists; Ewa Partum, Pavel Brăila, Andrius Arutiunian, Emma Lockey, Maciej Bączyk and more.
