Baan Noorg Art Collective Residency at Centrala
From 9-23 September, 2024, Centrala is thrilled to host the Baan Noorg Art Collective from Thailand for a two-week residency, presenting the next phase of the LIFE MUSE: On Adaptation Project Exhibition. This collaborative initiative between Baan Noorg and Centrala explores themes of migration, identity, and adaptation through exhibitions, workshops and public activities.
Residency Launch and Exhibition
The residency will officially launch on 12th of September, 2024, with an exhibition at Centrala showcasing works by the Baan Noorg collective. The event will commence at 7:00 PM, featuring a viewing of the exhibition followed by an engaging evening of music. DJ sets by Maggie Stick and JIDJ, member of the Baan Noorg collective, will provide a vibrant soundtrack to the evening, celebrating the intersection of art and culture.
Public Activities and Workshops
Throughout the residency, we will host several engaging events:
Centrala presents Split Horizons-film screening and conversation with Baan Noorg and Silhouette– 15 September, 2024
A collaborative screening event between Silhouette and Baan Noorg Art Collective. The programme features a lineup of skateboarding films that explore the culture, architecture, and creative expression of skate communities across two distinct locations.
Bang Noorg at CEEus Network– 18 September, 2024
This merged event features the CEE Us Network meet-up alongside the “Appointment” workshop led by Jiandyin (Jiradej Meemalai and Pornpilai Meemalai). This interdisciplinary performance art workshop focuses on transforming specialised skills into community contributions.
Family-Friendly Workshop with Special Guest Bang Noorg collective: Dream Big, Explore Migration through Art & Food – 21 September, 2024
Centrala is excited to offer a family-friendly workshop with two distinct yet complementary activities:
Dream Big From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, children are invited to explore their dreams and imagine their future careers through creative activities.
Parents’ Workshop: A Case Study of Substitute Cuisine
Concurrently, parents can participate in “A Case Study of Substitute Cuisine” led by Parichat Tanapiwattanakul of the Baan Noorg Art Collective. This workshop examines how migrants adapt traditional recipes with unfamiliar ingredients in new environments. It explores how these culinary adaptations reflect deeper stories of belonging and cultural blending.
The importance of LIFE MUSE
The LIFE MUSE project, co-curated by Parichat Tanapiwattanakul and Alicja Kaczmarek, emphasises the value of artistic exchange and community engagement. It highlights the positive impact of cultural exchanges and the generation of new ideas inspired by migration and adaptation.
