Ania Tomaszewska-Nelson ‘In the Beginning’

Centrala are delighted to host the exhibition on our Ground floor Space  “In the Beginning “ by artist Ania Tomaszewska-Nelson from Friday 3rd June  – Saturday 25th June

The narrative of Ania Tomaszewska-Nelson’s exhibition ‘In the Beginning’ is built from memories of landscapes. Simplified, humorous, ancient, political and provocative; these spaces are fictional. When creating the pieces, the artist uses techniques reminiscent of her favourite childhood activities:making snowmen, blot-printing (Rorschach test), playing with fire.Tomaszewska-Nelson pushes these ‘playful’ processes, testing her physical boundaries to restatethe seriousness of her message. Through her intriguing aesthetics, the artist invites the viewers to take a step back and reflect on the human relationship with landscape.

Ania Tomaszewska-Nelson is a visual contemporary artist of Polish origin. She moved from Poland to study art at The Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University. After graduating in 1996 in Painting and Mixed Media, Tomaszewska-Nelson settled in Brixton, London, where she has a studio.

Predominantly a painter, Tomaszewska-Nelson also works with video, photography, performance, land-art, installation and sound, always seeking a language best suited for the subject matter.
