Zine making workshops with Magdalena Kij (aka Maggie Stick) for migrant women in Redditch
Join artist and activist Maggie Stick in a free creative zine making workshop exploring stories of immigration and life in Redditch.
This specially designed workshop by Maggie, on behalf of Centrala, for Reimagine Redditch will allow participants to reflect on where they have come from, whether this be up the road or 100s of miles away, and where they are now.
Using methods of storytelling, drawing, collage, and character creation participants are invited to create a unique and collaborative zine that reflects their shared journeys and cultural heritage.
With Maggie’s expertise, participants can expect to create a beautiful and collaborative piece that represents not only their individual journeys but their journey as a community.

During the workshop, participants can expect to use paper, markers, pens, pencils, old magazines, and newspapers. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pictures, and newspapers if they would like.
This workshop is suitable for girls over the age of 12.

About the artist
Maggie Stick is an artist with activist qualities – an “artivist” from the Polish diaspora. She strives to create a space where the boundaries between art and social justice become blurred. Maggie explores the different ways of working with performance, prints, book and zine making, banners, installation, protest, analogue photography, music and community work. She believes that art can be a powerful tool for creating positive change, and is passionate about creating meaningful works that can make an impact. Maggie’s work explores themes of identity, migration, displacement, alienation, and self-determination and highlighting issues of poverty, inequalities, and systems of oppression.

Reimagine Redditch co-create excellent, relevant cultural activities and events in partnership with local, national and international creative people. To do this, they listen to local communities, take time to understand their needs and respect their wishes. Reimagine Redditch offers excellent creative and cultural experiences for everybody in Redditch. They want people across the borough to help decide what that looks like and how it’s delivered.
