Politics, the global economic-financial system and contemporary international contexts have been subjecting us to complex, contradictory and violent scenarios for years. Phenomena such as immigration, racism, gender discrimination, systemic hatred of social media, distorted use of religion, partial description of war scenarios, ideological use of the economy, etc. are difficult to grasp in their articulation and even more difficult to represent for the world of media, culture and the arts. A project such as I-CLAIM naturally lends itself to such considerations, given the intersectional ramifications of migratory phenomena. How to represent, how to render the lives, the difficulties, the contexts of immigrants and refugees? What to highlight? What to leave out. Every choice cuts away pieces of life, memories, struggles, sacrifices…
This talk intends to discuss the difficulties in grasping and representing, through the use of aesthetic languages, this type of situations with all their aggregations of meanings and breadth of implications, involving the public in a discussion on the collective perception of such phenomena.
