We’re very excited to announce that our special guest headliners for the night are STICK IN THE WHEEL, playing an exclusive set that you won’t hear anywhere else. The most exciting folk band playing in England today, playing their only show in Birmingham this year.
If you came to the last event for the folk, you know this band. If you came for the electronica… Stick in the Wheel are the DJ Bus Replacement Service & Surgeon of the contemporary folk scene. Does that make sense?
This is likely to be another sell-out! The rest of the line-up and event information will be released over the next couple of weeks. Expect a similar mix of folk, noise, and electronic dance music, including the debut of a brand new live techno set from some of the Acid Morris musicians.
What they say about Stick in the Wheel, for those not already in the know:
“The radical East London duo are known for their intense live shows exploring the raw holler of folk, synths, spoken word and intricate guitar fuzz. They present full-force reworkings of centuries-old work-songs with fragments of ancient texts that speak to contemporary issues of class – an inherently political act. Their relentless approach to questioning traditional music forms is matched only by the energy that they bring to it. Full of hope and resistance, they continue to push forward contemporary roots music, whilst celebrating music from our collective histories – conjuring the past to point toward the future.
“SITW grab hold of folk music with both hands, dragging it through the 21st century city with no fear they might somehow break it.” The Quietus
“Powerful – and deeply relatable” Pitchfork
“Maximum innovation” The Observer
“A diamond hard machine ★★★★★” Songlines
Tonebeds for Poetry is “a remarkable psychogeographic voyage into a thousand years of London culture” 9/10 UNCUT
“Hold Fast is one of the best records of the year” Marc Riley BBC 6 Music“
