Centrala will host the launch of the Baan Noorg Art Collective’s two-week residency and the opening of their exhibition on Thursday 12th September, starting at 7:00 PM.
The collective, who arrived in Birmingham on 9th September, will occupy the first floor of the gallery, showcasing new works created during their residency alongside selected materials from the ‘365 Days: LIFE MUSE Archives’, featuring videos, photographs, and archival documents. The exhibition forms part of the ongoing LIFE MUSE project, which explores themes of migration, identity, and adaptation.
On the ground floor at Centrala gallery space, Maggie Stick will present her exhibition ‘Moving to Island UK’, a reflection of her residency in Thailand this past July in collaboration with Centrala. Her work delves into migration, identity, self-determination, and transformation, and includes photographs from mask-making workshops conducted with local communities in Thailand, centred on self-expression and identity.
The evening will continue with DJ sets from Maggie Stick and JI, a member of the Bang Noorg Collective, from 7:40 PM, providing a vibrant musical atmosphere for the launch and exhibition opening.
