The opening event of our exhibition “Nostalgia ‘n’ Exploitation” in Naples by artist Chris Costa, presented as part of the I-CLAIM project.
This exhibition investigates the intersections of memory, migration, and representation in contemporary Europe. It explores how narratives of nostalgia are often entangled with structural dynamics of exploitation, particularly in relation to the migrant experience. Through a series of new works, Costa reflects on the ways in which cultural, economic, and media frameworks shape collective understandings of displacement, identity, and belonging.
The opening event will include a public talk by the artist, who will address the complexities involved in representing migratory phenomena through art. Drawing on the broader themes of the I-CLAIM project, Costa will discuss the role of aesthetics in portraying lived realities marked by exclusion, struggle, and resilience. The talk will also consider the limitations of visibility, and how every act of representation involves decisions about what is shown and what is left out.
