Don’t Mind Control #1 – Outdoor Socially Distanced Improvised Music

Thinking/Not Thinking and A M O K are teaming up to co-curate a brand new concert series of freely improvised music called Don’t Mind Control. This will be a set of instrumental (initially) outdoor socially distanced gigs.

These gigs will feature some of our favourite improvisers in the Midlands, as well as a few from further afield we’ve wanted an excuse to bring over to Brum for some time. The first one, taking place outside of Centrala on August 6th as an early evening type gig, will have James McIlwrath, Si Paton, Emily Abdy, Joe Rhodes and Anna Olsson in sets of different combos.

We will also be experimenting with a socialist-style ticketing system that includes different price ranges, set at £0, £3, £5, £7 and £10. This means that we don’t have to turn anyone away due to lack of funds (especially during this tough period) yet can also enable those who have the means and wish to offer more support to the Midlands community of creative musicians the chance to do so too. All the money gets shared between the performers. We will also need consent for keeping your details to comply with track and trace guidelines. Your data, however, will only be used for this (however, if you wish to join either the Thinking/Not Thinking or AMOK mailing lists, there will be an option to do so to keep up with things both of us will be planning outside of DMC). That’s why it’s important to register for tickets via Eventbrite for tickets, even if you are unable to pay, in order to comply.

We have a second one we’re planning, hopefully for the end of August, but we’re going to see how this one goes first before we announce it. Please note that this will be an early evening show with doors opening at 6 and first act on at 6.30.

This feels weird as hell but we’re excited so much for it! We can’t wait to see you again!
