A new exciting programme of live experimental music commissions, each exploring responses from UK and international artists to the pandemic. This event features a live performance from Kai Chareunsy and screenings of new commissioned works from Kai and Shadwa Ali.
Kai Chareunsy is a drummer and composer with a background in jazz and improvised music, and a recent interest in electro-acoustic music. His compositional output explores music that exists in a space between these two quite disparate worlds through the sonic manipulation of improvising musicians playing acoustic instruments. Known for his sensibility to sound and melodic approach to drumming, he is becoming an established member of the U.K. music scene and has worked with a number of outstanding artists.
Shadwa Ali is an Egyptian Audio-Visual artist born in Alexandria, 1990. Her work explores the human psyche and society through the lense of the chaotic routines of Cairo & Alexandria. She highlights the unnoticed details in these environments and manipulates reality to reflect the absurdity.
Her audio work has been featured in “Alternate African Reality” by Syrphe, 2020 and “Quarantined” online exhibition by Goethe-Institut, Alexandria, 2020. She exhibited her Audio-Visual work in many exhibitions such as “Technocrats” by Art d’Egypt, Cairo, 2021. Cairotronica, 2018; “Roznama 5” exhibition at Medrar, Cairo, 2016; “Interription” exhibition at townhouse, Cairo, 2014; 23th & 25th Cairo Youth Salon; Agenda & First time exhibitions at Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
