Report Launch / 05.03.2025
On Wednesday, 5th March 2025, Centrala, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City Council, hosted a highly engaging Report Launch Event. The evening brought together a diverse group of attendees, including researchers, community leaders, policymakers, and members of the public, all eager to discuss critical issues affecting displaced communities and mental health support in Birmingham.
The event marked the unveiling of significant reports that shed light on pressing social challenges:
1. Support for Displaced Ukrainians
Led by the University of Birmingham, in collaboration with Centrala and Birmingham City Council, this project draws on findings from three related research initiatives: Post-Socialist Britain, Futures of Ukraine, and Effectiveness of Support for Displaced Ukrainians.
The research team, working alongside Ukrainians, Homes for Ukraine hosts, and NGOs, has produced three essential sets of guidance:
- Intercultural guidance for Ukrainians and those supporting them.
- Guidance for schools and educators on supporting young Ukrainians in education.
- Guidance for young people aiming to enter university in the UK.

2. Mental Health Support for Central and Eastern European Communities in Birmingham
Commissioned by Public Health and conducted by Centrala, this report highlights the challenges faced by Central and Eastern European (CEE) communities in accessing mental health services. The findings emphasize the urgent need for culturally tailored support mechanisms to ensure these communities receive the care they need.

Beyond the presentation of these crucial reports, the evening was enriched by thought-provoking discussions, networking opportunities, and a showcase of cultural performances that captivated the audience. The performances were incredible, reflecting the rich diversity and resilience of the communities involved. Attendees also enjoyed a wonderful selection of food and refreshments, making the evening not just informative but also warm and welcoming.

The insights from these reports will play a pivotal role in shaping policies and support systems for displaced Ukrainians and CEE communities. Centrala encourages everyone to explore the findings and engage in discussions on how we can work together to implement meaningful change.
