3rd – 4th March 2023
Outlands & Centrala present:
33, Alpha Maid, and Olan Monk
AS PART OF THE FOURTH ANNUAL OUTLANDS NETWORK ‘JOYOUS THING’ EVENT FOR UK EXPERIMENTAL
MUSIC PRODUCERS AND AUDIENCES
For the 4th Outlands Network annual event (The Joyous Thing 4) C.A.N.V.A.S. will
present live performances from Olan Monk (w/Michael Speers), Alpha Maid, and 33
(Billy Bultheel & Alexander Iezzi).
Across an accompanying programme of talks and networking sessions, the weekend will centre discussion on the intersections of experimental music communities alongside ongoing questions about how organisations can unite to face the issues and opportunities specific to our sector.
Olan Monk, co-founder of C.A.N.V.A.S, is a musician, performer and writer from
Connemara, on the west coast of Ireland. Their debut album Love/Dead was released in
June 2020, followed by Auto Life, an EP released in October 2021. Past collaborations
include recordings and performances with Actress, Ashley Paul, Elvin Brandhi, James K,
Maria Somerville and Michael Speers.
Alpha Maid is a guitarist and producer from South East London who crafts compositions
of lo-fi punk, grunge and glitch electronics. Also a member of CURL collective who she
occasionally joins for live shows. She released her debut EP, Spy, via CURL label in 2019.
Her most recent output is second EP ‘CHUCKLE’ released in March 2021 via C.A.N.V.A.S.
For AQNB this was Alpha Maid employing“her folksiest sonic approach to date as she
enlists her beat-up acoustic guitar to soundtrack introspective impulses”.
Through their collaborative project 33, Billy Bultheel and Alexander Iezzi further
consolidate a partnership which has taken many forms within a visual, artistic spectrum.
Their practice envelops performance art, music and installation, whilst pinpointing,
developing and elaborating the most meaningful and poignant marriages of the disciplines.
Their differing backgrounds have informed the way that their long collaboration works –
Bultheel with his conservatory training, and Iezzi coming from DIY punk and experimental
music scenes. Their debut album 33-69 was released in October 2022 on C.A.N.V.A.S,
and described by Wire magazine as a “surprisingly powerful and cohesive debut”.
