Birmingham-based collective Sellotape Cinema came into possession of an audio tape recording labelled ‘Hamburger 1982’. Intrigued, they had a listen and discovered a conversation between Genesis P-Orridge (COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV) and Klaus Maeck (screenwriter) in which they discussed ideas for a film – the as yet unmade avant-garde cyberpunk tale Decoder (1984) which riffs loosely on the writings of William S. Burroughs. Sellotape Cinema presents Recoder, a live slide projection remake of the 1984 original based on the audio recording made 2 years prior to the film.
