Can You See Me? – Muslim Girls Fence exhibition

Muslim Girls Fence project in Birmingham, has been holding a series of creative workshops with Muslim women and women of colour, exploring issues around identity, representation and misrepresentation of Muslim women in society.

The result of these conversations is a photo series, created in collaboration with photographer Sarah Ali. It involves a series of ‘self-portraits’ curated by the participants of MGF Birmingham.

Telling their own stories on their own terms, they challenge prevailing biases and reductive narratives, sharing their experiences of being a Muslim woman/woman of colour in the UK today. This is part of the nation-wide Muslim Girls Fence project, a collaboration between Maslaha and British Fencing aiming to challenge misperceptions of young Muslim women, in the light of the complex discrimination they face on the basis of both faith and gender, through sport and creativity.

We are hoping to see you at the launch night Thursday 15th August 5.30pm – 8pm

Please RSVP through eventbrite. Free cakes and desserts refreshments will be offered on the night.

This exhibition and MGF Birmingham are a result of a collaboration between the Muslim Girls Fence project, Impact Hub Birmingham, Youths2Legends and the photographer Sarah Ali
