Sound the Art

We are happy to announce about the new sound art project of Centrala and looking to recruit a team of twelve (NEET) visually impaired young people, aged 18-25 years, to take part in our Sound The Art project.

The project aims to engage visually impaired young people in Birmingham in high-quality art and participatory activities to allow them to experience art designed and accessible to them. The project will focus on sound art led by artist Sam Underwood to work with project participants towards achieving Silver Arts Award and production of their final performance to culminate the project.

The project will be divided into three type of monthly art activities:

Art Club sessions run by sound artist Sam Underwood

Masterclasses led by Centrala’s sound programme artists and performers.

Family Workshops designed for all families

At the end of the project the selected participants will:

Receive Silver Arts Award

Own portfolio

Recorded sound art

Social media channel

New knowledge about sound art

Opportunity to be part of the live performances presented to audiences at Centrala

 

The project will run from October 2018 to March 2019 and is supported by Birmingham City Council and Art Council England. The team will come together 3 times per month (the days will be announced after the selection), at Centrala. The final performance will be in June 2019.
