Join us for the launch of the extended report In-Between Spaces: Inclusion and Representation of Central and Eastern European (CEE) Artists in the UK Creative Economy, a significant study conducted by Centrala Art Gallery in collaboration with the University of Birmingham.
Originally launched in 2021, the report received widespread attention for uncovering the underrepresentation and challenges faced by CEE artists in the UK’s creative sector. The updated version, gathering data from across England up to 2023, provides a more comprehensive national picture and continues to highlight the systemic issues of discrimination, microaggressions, and “Eastern Europeanism”—a form of xeno-racism that marginalises artists from Europe’s East.
This panel discussion will feature:
- Prof. Sara Jones – Academic Lead, University of Birmingham
- Alicja Kaczmarek – Director, Centrala Art Gallery
- Vyte Garriga – Actress, Writer, and Theatre Performer
The event will explore the report’s findings and open a conversation on the future of representation for CEE artists in the UK.
This event is co-organised by the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK, Centrala Space, and the University of Birmingham.
