Fly the Flag – workshop + talk
We are proud to follow the idea of artist Ai Weiwei, who designed a flag to celebrate this important anniversary.
We will join the cities, towns and villages from across the UK, in galleries and theatres, shopping centres and offices, schools and libraries which both physically and online all coming together to celebrate that human rights are for everyone, every day!
Centrala will be a part of Fly The Flag 70 celebration on 29 June, when we invite you to join us to make your own flag and take part in the talk by Sherie Sitauze. You will have the chance to take part in a discussion about the concept of a flag, its materiality and what it symbolises in the context of human rights.
Our programme:
? 1PM – 2PM – Boyana Aleksova Art – flag-making family workshop from a variety of materials including paper and fabrics. Design and make the flag which best represents your idea of human rights. This workshop is designed for all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult.
? 2PM – 3PM Sherie Sitauze – will talk about the idea of a flag, its materiality and what it symbolises. Sherie Sitauze is a UK based artist whose work is heavily embedded in post-colonial theories and concepts, it aims to establish and reproduce the pre-colonial histories of Southern Africa.
This event is free but places need to be booked.
The children need to be accompanied by an adult for the whole time.
Materials will be provided but if you would like to use something specific feel free to bring it!
