Join Us for ‘Im going to a Spring Celebration’ – Marzanna Workshop
Winter is almost over, and it’s time to welcome spring the traditional way!
This special family-friendly arts & crafts event is for everyone—Ukrainian, Eastern European, migrant, and non-migrant families. It’s a chance to come together, have fun, and welcome the new season with a beautiful tradition!
Led by the wonderful Monika Lenard, an experienced children’s workshop facilitator, this session will introduce you to the ancient Slavic tradition of Marzanna. Marzanna, also known as Morana, was a goddess representing death, winter, and disease. To mark the arrival of spring, people would create a Marzanna doll, made of straw and dressed in traditional clothing, and then symbolically say goodbye to winter. In modern times, the tradition has evolved into a joyful ritual for children and families, celebrating the change of seasons in a fun and creative way.
At this workshop, you and your children will discover the fascinating tradition of Marzanna and create your own beautifully decorated Marzanna doll to take home! Through this hands-on activity, you’ll not only celebrate the arrival of spring but also explore a piece of Slavic heritage in a fun and engaging way. It’s a chance to spend quality time together as a family, spark creativity, and enjoy a unique cultural experience. Most importantly, you’ll meet other families from diverse backgrounds, share stories, and build new connections in a warm and welcoming space.
