Centrala Summer Solstice: Oya Batucada | Zirak Hamad | Retinal Circus | DJ Igor Carmo

Summer Solstice GIG Against Racism

As the sun reaches its highest point and we welcome the longest day of the year, we invite you to join us at Centrala for an evening of joy, rhythm, and unity.

This celebration is a part of a wider project funded by the Community Rescue Fund from Birmingham City Council. It was developed in response to the racist riots that shook our city during the summer of 2024. In the wake of those events, many migrant and refugee communities in Birmingham experienced fear, isolation, and tension.

This gathering is our collective response — a vibrant, uplifting space where we come together to celebrate our shared humanity, resist division, and honour the strength of our diverse communities.

We’ll kick off the evening from 6.30pm !!!

You can expect thr powerful energy of Oya Batucada samba band, followed by the soulful melodies of Zirak Hamad’s Kurdish band and the experimental sounds of Retinal Circus.

DJ Igor Carmo will keep the rhythm flowing between each set and close the night with an unforgettable dance set full of warmth and celebration.

Let’s mark the Summer Solstice with music, movement, and solidarity. Join us to stand together, dance together, and celebrate the beauty of our differences in a space that welcomes all.
