Practical Leadership Training for Migrant Community Leaders
Knowing your rights—and understanding how statutory services work—is essential for supporting migrant communities effectively.
As part of the CEE Us! Network Leadership Programme 2026, we invite migrant leaders, community organisers, volunteers, advocates, and emerging leaders to join this practical training exploring migrants’ rights, immigration status, and access to essential services in the UK.
Through the CEE Us! Network, we support migrant leaders to strengthen their knowledge, confidence, leadership, and advocacy skills while building stronger, better-informed communities across the UK. This workshop forms part of our ongoing programme of free leadership training designed to empower those supporting migrant communities.
Facilitator
The training will be delivered by Karolina Borkiewicz-Singh, an Immigration and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) Adviser specialising in supporting vulnerable migrants experiencing multiple forms of disadvantage. Alongside her role as an Independent Slavery and Exploitation Advocate with the West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network, Karolina delivers specialist training informed by extensive frontline experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, exploitation, domestic abuse, and complex immigration issues.
What you’ll learn
This practical training will help you build a clearer understanding of how immigration status affects people’s rights and access to support in the UK.
Together, we’ll explore topics including the UK immigration system, No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), and the rights of EU citizens after Brexit. We’ll also look at how migrants can access statutory services such as welfare benefits, housing and homelessness support, healthcare, domestic abuse services, Children’s Services, and Adult Social Care.
Alongside understanding legal rights and entitlements, we’ll discuss the barriers many migrants experience when trying to access support, how to recognise vulnerability and risks of exploitation, and how community organisations can work effectively with statutory agencies to achieve better outcomes for the people they support. Throughout the session, Karolina will share practical examples, real-life case studies, and professional insights from her frontline experience, with plenty of opportunities for questions and discussion.
