CEE Creatives Networking Event

‘The final encounter’ CEE Creative Network meeting, on Tuesday 26 March 6pm-8pm, will be an in-person session at Centrala with our migrant artist network – a chance to network, share experiences, and work with one another.

Our first speaker will be Vlatka Horvat, Centrala’s March resident artist. The focus of Vlatka’s presentation will be her project for the upcoming Venice Biennale, which takes the form of an invitational framework into which she invites other artists. What all the invited artists have in common is that they are all “foreigners” in the places where they live, as is Vlatka herself.

In her presentation, Vlatka will look at some of the concerns at the heart of this project which might be of interest to the migrant artists’ lived experience: questions regarding belonging or nonbelonging, questions of home, of navigating systems and structures, of improvising and making do.

Our second speaker is Sylwia Ciszewska-Peciak, a Polish photographer, based in West Bromwich.

Her artistic journey is marked by an exploration of human stories and the transformative power of motherhood. Putting down roots in the new place led to her exploring the cosmopolitan nature of her new home by recording life on the street. In her street photography, she captures candid, fleeting moments that reveal the authentic essence of individuals. The birth of her first daughter led her to documentary photography, using it as an instrument for deep self-reflection and self-therapy. She explores the impact of motherhood on a woman’s self-esteem and its profound connection to the broader female experience.

In her presentation Sylwia will present her practice and talk about her journey as a migrant artist in the UK.

This CEE Creatives session will involve presentations, work sharing, and discussion with an opportunity to ask our artists questions and network afterwards. Wine and nibbles are provided.

Tickets are free but limited space – booking via Eventbrite is essential.
