Join us for an evening of Reggae and Eastern European Folk Songs dedicated to our communities in Handsworth.
The evening will be opened by an ensemble of diverse musicians with heritage from Poland, Bulgaria, Greece and Ireland and sharing their music via broadcast from Birmingham.
Expect beautiful melodies and catchy dance tunes played on violin, accordion, mandolin with Stefan Stefanov singing in his native Bulgarian. All the musicians live in Birmingham and have been gathered and organised by Jobe Sullivan.
Featuring Basil Gabbidon, best known as part of Steel Pulse – Handsworth’s most renowned reggae band, taking the world by storm with their song “Handsworth Revolution”. Expect a lockdown-special acoustic vibe from this internationally acclaimed musician as he returns to play for his home patch once more.
We’ll be using the technical talents of Paul Withers who will help record, livestream and sound engineer the whole performance for maximum accessibility for this amazing gig.
This event will be organised while adhering to social distancing measures and with the safety of everyone involved as a priority.
Centrala Connecting Communities is delivered in partnership with Birmingham City Council.
