Join us for a special commemoration of the Armenian Genocide featuring the multi-award winning short film,Taniel, directed by Garo Berberian. This event is part of artist Karen Babayan’sHybrid Landscapes” residency.

Taniel is a cinematic tribute to the Armenian poet Taniel Varoujan, who was tragically arrested during the Armenian Genocide on April 24, 1915. Filmed in a Film Noir style, Taniel captures the era’s dramatic aesthetic with extreme lighting and camera angles. The film’s narrative is powerfully conveyed through Varoujan’s poems in Western Armenian, with emotive English narrative poetry delivered by the renowned actor Sean Bean. The film evokes the tense atmosphere on the eve of the First World War and the unfolding catastrophe of the Armenian Genocide.

Event Highlights:

  • Screening of Taniel
  • Wine Reception: Mingle and reflect on the film over a glass of wine.
  • Panel Discussion and Poetry Reading: Featuring Karen Babayan, director Garo Berberian, and producer Tatevik Ayvazyan, moderated by Centrala’s Director Alicja Kaczmarek.
