I-CLAIM Exhibition in Brussels

The exhibition Uncertain Grounds: Reframing Migration brings together newly commissioned artworks developed as part of the European research project I-CLAIM. Taking place at Demeester Gallery in Brussels, the exhibition presents a series of video and photographic works that explore how migration governance, labour conditions, and public narratives shape everyday life across Europe.
The exhibition features works by Alicja Rogalska, Chris Costa, Anna Knappe & Amir Jan, Ieva Baltaduonytė, Jana Shostak, and Radu-Mihai Tanasă. Each artist created a new artwork in response to research conducted within the I-CLAIM project, engaging with themes such as platform labour, migrant work in agricultural sectors, family life under conditional residence status, and the ways migration is represented in public discourse.
The artworks were originally presented in individual exhibitions in the countries where the research took place — including the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom. In Uncertain Grounds, these works are brought together for the first time, creating a shared space to reflect on the diverse realities of migration governance across Europe.
Working primarily with video and photographic media, the artists approach these themes through their own artistic practices, offering perspectives that move beyond policy debates and statistics to foreground lived experience, personal narratives, and speculative ways of imagining the future.
All artworks in the exhibition were commissioned by Centrala Space (Birmingham, UK) as part of the I-CLAIM project.
Opening Reception and Artists’ Talk

The opening evening will include a reception and an artists’ talk introducing the exhibition and the works on view.
