Centrala is delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding through Birmingham City Council’s Vibrant & Active City (VAC) Programme, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This investment will allow us to carry out significant improvements to our music space in Digbeth, enhancing accessibility, community use, and long-term sustainability.
The funding will support essential upgrades aimed at making our venue more accessible, neurodivergent-friendly, and welcoming for everyone who uses it, including improvements to flooring, walls, and sound. These developments are shaped by audience and community feedback, to reflect our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment for audiences, visitors, artists, and promoters who may have access needs, be neurodivergent, and/or from a minority background. Together, these changes will help ensure our venue remains a safer, more inclusive cultural home for the many communities who rely on Centrala.
Work is expected to begin over the next couple of months. During this period, there may be some temporary disruptions to our operations, but we will keep our communities, audiences, and partners fully updated as the project progresses. We look forward to sharing more as the refurbishment unfolds and to welcoming everyone back into an improved space that better supports creativity, connection, and belonging.
