Anti-Racism Campaign / Under the Same Sky

This Refugee Week, Centrala is proud to launch Under the Same Sky, a powerful new anti-racism campaign shaped by solidarity, urgency, and the belief that change is possible when communities come together.

The campaign was developed in direct response to the racist riots that shook Birmingham in the summer of 2024, leaving many migrant and refugee communities deeply affected. In the aftermath of that violence and fear, Under the Same Sky emerges as a call to unity, healing, and lasting systemic change.

While Birmingham is one of the most diverse cities in the UK, diversity alone does not guarantee connection. Research and lived experiences highlight persistent divisions between migrant, refugee, and long-settled communities, including within migrant groups themselves. This campaign seeks to bridge those divides through empathy, creativity, and collective action.

At its core, Under the Same Sky uplifts migrant voices, challenges harmful stereotypes, and centres inclusion. Particular focus is placed on Central and Eastern European communities, empowering them to stand as visible allies, active participants, and agents of change in the fight against racism.

The campaign will run from June through November, with a series of cultural and community events across Birmingham. Highlights include:

A Summer Solstice Gig, bringing people together to celebrate through music and connection.

An Anti-Racism Concert in the autumn, uniting artists, community leaders, and the public in a strong statement of solidarity.

Through community, culture, and dialogue, Under the Same Sky offers a collective space for reflection, celebration, and action. It is an invitation for everyone, regardless of background, to come together, connect, and build a more just and inclusive city.

Because no matter where we come from, we all live under the same sky
