On December 21st, we’re happy to welcome amazing artists Goodiepals & Pals and Thee Alex, here at Centrala!
Goodiepal & Pals
Goodiepal or Gæoudjiparl van den Dobbelsteen, whose real name is Parl Kristian Bjørn Vester, is a controversial Danish/Faroese musician/composer. The eccentric and self-made Goodiepal has influenced the course of modern music through radical excursions into computer technology and media art
About two years ago Goodiepal decided to stop touring alone; age had crept up on him and after many many years on the road alone he decided to form a band. The name of this band was Goodiepal & Pals. So far so good but the band members were much younger than him and had political agendas and before he knew it, GP&PLS was a political band, touring Europe engaged in political action. But for the younger members of the band that was not enough, and the band evolved into a refugee organisation disguised as a band, active on Europe’s borders in Greece, Serbia, Croatia, Germany and Scandinavia.
Thee Alex AKA Thee Moths AKA A Small Glass Ghost AKA about a hundred other names is musician, writer, and artist Alex Botten. In a career that has straddled four decades he has shared stages with everyone from Lucky Dragons to Phil Elverum’s Mount Eerie, recorded thousands of pieces of music, performed in museums, bandstands, living rooms, stairwells, and working men’s clubs, been a music journalist, briefly a stand-up comedian, written three books, and has work in the permanent collections of Oxford Brookes, The British Library, Goldsmiths, and Statens Museum For Kunst, Copenhagen. Since 1998 his music has been released on labels all over the world.
His performances range from improvised electronica, acoustic songs sung, through to lectures about post-apocalyptic techno illustrated by PowerPoint slides. His current work examines whether performance is at all necessary in electronic music or whether the presence of the creative artist is enough.
