DFF - Lucy McLauchlan ‘Unfold’ & ‘Hex - journey of 6'
On the first floor - opening of the 'UNFOLD' exhibition by international artist Lucy McLauchlan.
Sharing a common theme, each piece evolved from painting on site in different locations from Moscow to Bordesley, and provides a momentary look inside the artist’s current practice.
The collection of works have grown from Lucy’s background in mural painting, coupled with her desire to capture more permanent documentation of murals which are by nature ephemeral. The pieces relate to each other directly through the very physical act of painting outside on site, dealing with varied surfaces and unknown external factors. These varied surfaces are echoed in the mixed media used on paper, canvas and wood. The show will also include films by Matthew Watkins which will run all week, and reveal Lucy at work.
The exhibition includes pieces created at Warley Woods in Bearwood, underneath Bordesley Junction by the canal in Birmingham, on brownfield sites in Stoke on Trent as part of a residency at AirSpace Gallery, and in Moscow for the Artmossphere Biennale.
The exhibition will be open from 7th - 15th June (except Monday). On Saturdays 8th and 15th at 2pm Lucy will walk through the show recounting her experiences and stories behind each piece.
On the ground floor: Hex. It’s the journey of 6. Dicotamy to result. The final embelishment to the paths of fine art students flourishing in the socio-political landscape we reside. Hex. It is the end for 6, So, what is our result?
