Centrala Cycles

Cycling is a fun, fast and healthy way of commuting in Birmingham. And as many new cycling routes are opening in Brum, northern areas which are homes to Eastern European communities, such as Perry Barr or Erdington are still quite isolated and in need for more safe and trusted paths.

Our Centrala Cycles project offers an answer to that by creating a cycling routes map featuring paths leading from north Birmingham areas to Centrala and offering free bike maintenance workshops led by Birmingham Bike Foundry.

The project encourages sustainable way of transport, which is cheaper and easier to use after introducing congestion charge in the city centre. It raises awareness of how people can use already existing routes of the city, and enjoy its natural heritage in the form of Birmingham’s canals. It promotes forgotten canal routes as an easy alternative to driving. It will also enable access to city centre to the migrant communities. Topping all of that with amazing bike maintenance workshops.

There are two dates available for the workshops: 28th of August 2021 and 4th of September 2021. Both offer begginer-level support about how to maintain your bike - training bikes will be provided, so you don’t need to bring your own!

This project is implemented in collaboration with the Seeds of Sustainablity (SOS) project by the European Network of Cultural Centres. This project invites cultural centres to take swift action on climate change and shares inspiring projects and initiatives
