EISODOS – AN IMMERSIVE AUDIOVISUAL EXPERIENCE
What happens when you combine two visual artists with an experimental electronic duo, add a violinist and top it all off with an opera singer? Come and find out on Digbeth First Friday at Centrala Art Loft. Eisodos is a project by visual artists Paris-Ch and Stelios Ilchouk , the electronic duo EIF , violinist and conductor Thomas Payne as well as mezzo-soprano Magdalena Ardelli. Together they want to create an immersive audiovisual experience, integrating hand pulled silk-screened wallpaper and light installation projections with atmospheric sound-scapes. Rather than a sole observation of aesthetics, Eisodos asks the spectator to have an experience with the artwork, says visual artist Paris. The conceptual background for his work is makes use of Idealist philosophy stating reality as a mind-made construction. He is especially interested in the effects his handmade wallpaper picturing mesmeric optic illusions and minimalist geometry has on the beholder.
Paris found his musical counterpart for the project in the duo EIF as well as Thomas Payne and Magdalena Ardelli. Electronic and classical music will merge, just like the whole Eisodos experience is meant to generate a clash of the classic and the modern. EIF use self-recorded samples provided by nature, and play them in a rate distinctive to the heart rate during meditative state.
Eisodos, the greek word for entrance, was chosen as a name for the collaboration because of both it’s literal and it’s metaphorical meaning in relation to the artwork that was created with the idea of entering an altered state of mind through it.
