Centrala is a space to explore Central and Eastern Europe’s cutting-edge art and culture. We present an innovative programme of socially-engaged, contemporary art and artists, alongside a diverse range of eclectic events. We are space for people to come together, be creative and engage with the arts, culture, history and politics of Central and Eastern Europe.
Centrala is the only publicly-funded gallery for Central and Eastern European art in the UK, and the only such space outside London with a national and international reach. We are the only organisation of our kind in Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and the only gallery to focus on socially-engaged art and artists from Central and Eastern Europe.
Centrala welcomes exhibition proposals from artists, independent curators and practitioners. We have space available at Centrala Gallery and Cafe and we love to support all artists. At Centrala Gallery, we aim to present contemporary Central and Eastern European art to the general public, but we are open to all forms of collaborations. There are opportunities to exhibit art work, screen films, showcase video art and stage performances. All proposals must be submitted using Centrala exhibition proposal form which can be downloaded as a PDF here and emailed to email@example.com.
All submitted proposals will be reviewed by our Art Team. We reserve the right not to invite you to exhibit. Due to the volume of proposals we receive, we may not be able to respond to every submission. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Central Bloc is a platform to facilitate collaboration, discussion and support for Central and Eastern European artists and curators residing and practising in the UK. This is the pilot stage of the project and we would like to hear from you what forms of support are needed and what barriers are faced by CEE artists and art professionals in their career progression in the UK.
Central Bloc members will have access to Centrala’s diverse range of seminars, conferences and workshops, as well as peer mentoring schemes, contact lists and critique sessions (both digitally and at Centrala’s Birmingham gallery). They will also have an opportunity to jointly host exhibitions and events, including during Digbeth First Friday – the bustling monthly showcase of the Birmingham art world. Networking events and development opportunities will also be created in London.
With many years of experience and an extensive, trans-European contact network, Central Bloc will also provide artists with support for funding applications and opportunities to obtain international residencies through travel grants. Central Bloc membership is free and requires submitting a membership application form, which can be accessed here: https://goo.gl/MN85ba
